A large crowd turned up to watch the Reigate Rapids v Sutton Scorchers in the ECB U19 T20.
Reigate Rapids won the toss and chose to bowl.
Jonny Flanders took the new pink ball and his accurate slow left arm spin didn’t enable Sutton to get off to a fast start with just 2 runs coming from Jonny’s opening over.
Harry Elliss took the 2nd over and continued his good form from the previous game at Oxted taking a wicket with his 2nd ball when he clean bowled the Sutton opening bat.
Score 2 for 1 in the 2nd over.
It was Jonny’s turn next when he bowled the Sutton number 3 to have Sutton at 30-2 in the 5th over.
Dan Grant took over from Jonny Flanders and with the last ball of his opening over continued the clean bowled theme by getting his 1st wicket with Sutton now 48-3 in the 7th over. Dan’s 2nd over (the 9th) saw Dan take 2 more wickets for 52-4 then 52-5.
The Llamas had the run rate under control with the 8th, 9th, 10th & 11th overs going for 2,2,3 & 4 respectively.
Having broken the back of the Sutton top order Sutton were unable to take too many risks and had only reached 94-5 after 17 overs.
A brief rally with 14 coming off the 18th over before more wickets fell to the returning opening bowlers when in the 19th over Jonny Flanders got his 2nd wicket (114-6) and then Harry Elliss got his 2nd wicket before the Sutton Scorchers innings finished on 118-7 after 20 overs.
The support continued through the whole innings as did the music; not turned off during actual play. It didn’t seem to bother the players so it seems the Generation Gap is wider than I thought.

Sam Hall and Tom Guise began the Reigate reply against Sam Blake and fellow opening bowler Connor Griffin.
Sam Blake is a regular in the Sutton 2nd’s and Connor has played the last 2 games in Sutton’s 1st eleven so the chase was likely to be a test.
After a quiet start with just 1 from Sam Blake’s 1st over it was Sam Hall who warmed to the task by taking 9 from Connor’s 1st over before he got fully into his stride by taking 23 off Sam Blake’s next over including 2 fours and 2 sixes one of which went over the top of the sightscreen and into the Blue Anchor beer garden.
Connor Griffin got Sutton’s 1st wicket in the 4th over when he bowled Tom Guise to leave the Llamas 36-1.
Meanwhile Sam Hall continued his onslaught of the bowlers and raced to 50 when he had to retire, having scored 50 of the Llamas 63 runs, with 1 ball of the 7th over remaining, leaving the Llamas 13 overs to get the 50 odd needed for victory.
Ashwin Bhat and Jonny Flanders then took the Llamas to 86-1 after 12 overs.
The returning Connor Griffin and fellow Sutton 1st teamer and Sutton Scorchers captain Rehan Ratnasapabathey couldn’t breakthrough.
One of the Sutton youngsters had a 12 ball over (the 15th) which saw the Llamas close in on their target at 115-1.
It took just 2 more balls to see the Llamas to victory at 119-1 in the 16th over to further enhance their run rate.
The win takes the Llamas to 2nd place with 2 games in hand on top placed Banstead.
The next match is Monday evening at 5pm v the Oxted Grasshoppers.
