A rare Ginkgo Biloba tree has been planted by the Cricket and Tennis Clubs in memory of Queen Elizabeth II. The driving force behind the project was Pippa Martin of the Tennis Club and the Reigate and Redhill Society.
The initial idea was developed over a year ago and was planned to commemorate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee last summer. By the time the planting ceremony came round last October the Queen had however sadly died. This very rare tree of friendship symbolises longevity, hope and peace.
A beautiful plaque has been produced and this week was put in place in front of the tree. It has been planted in the space previously occupied by the old dead tree stump in the hedge between the Cricket Club and the Bowls Club.
Check it out on your next stroll round the ground. It's a very special tree and one of the oldest tree species in the world.
